Introducing Guam’s New Trash Collection Service
Keeping Guam clean and beautiful now—and for future generations
In June 2010, the Solid Waste Management Division (SWMD) completed the transition to a cart-based system for residential trash collection. The response from residential customers to the new trash cart system was very positive. The initial supply of 7,000 carts was exhausted before a second shipment arrived. Demand for the new cart was so strong that a third shipment was required in order to complete the delivery of carts to new customers. Overall, 19,090 carts were delivered, an increase of 6,501 representing a 52 percent in total residential customers.
This new system provides new convenience for customers, reduce risk of injury for collection crews, and introduces modern efficiencies into Guam’s solid waste system. The new system also will help Guam become cleaner and greener.
Residents (both current and new SWMD customers) in single family homes and apartments of four (4) units or less with ample space for carts can still register with the SWMD for trash service and a new covered, rolling trash cart.

More to come
The new cart-based service is only the beginning. Now that the cart-based system is in place, the SWMD will add bulky waste collection by appointment for furniture and appliances, and free household hazardous waste collection sites where you will be able to take batteries, anti-freeze, used motor oil and other household toxics that are hazardous and must not be put in the trash.
Please visit this website often and subscribe to the notification service for updates.
Guam is a beautiful island, and we each have a role to play in keeping our community clean and green. The new cart-based trash collection system is an important step.
